Being Arizona residence, strong storms are something we don't experience as often as other places in the country. Fortunately for us the chances of having storm related damage isn't as high as a result. There are certain times of the year that we do experience storms capable of depositing enough rain or having strong enough winds to cause a ton of damage in very little time. Monsoons or el nino related storms are some examples. Here are a few common storm related problems to look out for.
During times of high wind and rain falling trees are almost always going to follow. These can fall anywhere and the damage they can bring is astounding. If a tree falls on a house it will almost always result in roof damage which could also lead to water damage if this happens before the rains have subsided. Anytime a tree falls on your house it is something that should be taken seriously. The weight alone can kill someone if it were to fall on them.
Strong winds can reek havoc on even a new roof. A roof with some age to it has an even higher chance of being susceptible to damage if hit with high winds. After a major storm it is recommended to take a look at your roof and make sure nothing was damaged. If damaged, water damage and even mold could follow during the next rain if not dealt with in time.
Flood damage can deliver a ton of water in a very short amount of time. In times of strong rain storms this is something you should be wary of. Places next to rivers, creeks, washes or areas known to flood should be prepared and have a plan in place in case your home or business were to flood. If flooding damage does occur first and foremost safety should be the number one priority. Next contact a water restoration company to begin removing the water in the structure. Time is very critical to prevent mold growth.
Strong winds can inflict damage in many ways to a home or business. Some examples include broken windows, roof damage, roof leaks, fallen trees and degrading of building materials. It is important to keep an eye out for materials damaged during high winds because these can lead to water damage later on if not fixed in time.
